These day international students who want to study English in order to improve their English skill are increasing more and more in America. Besides, the nationality of international students is diversifying. For this reason, every language schools or universities should prepare good policies and curriculums for international students. However, their policies and curriculums couldn’t be fully satisfied by their international students. Especially, university of California, Riverside, our university, also is in similar situation.
Recently, some of UCR extension students are protesting that this 2010 year’s summer session is not reasonable to them. There are three reasons about this protest. The first problem is money problem. The tuition fee of the summer session is higher than the other session. The second problem is limitation of choice. Students who are planning to take a class in extension center can choice only 12 units in this session. In addition, the number of classes which student can take is limited. However the number of units and classes of this session is less than the other session. The third problem is policy problem. Many students want to take classes in UCR main campus in summer session. However, the procedure is so complicated to enroll these classes.
In this reasons, many students are protesting to extension center. In my opinion, the UCR extension center should offer rational solutions for students. I propose one good solution for UCR extension center. My proposition is scholarship policy. If extension center gave some scholarship for students who were attended classes well last quarter, the scholarship would encourage to studying for student. Then students protest will be less more than now.
